美国国家航空暨太空总局（NASA）同日通过网上直播探测车登上火星的过程。当确认着陆成功时，NASA控制中心的工程师们非常兴奋，总统拜登在随即于Twitter上祝贺。这个探测器要用不少于两年的时间去采集火星上的岩石，同时寻找过去存在生命的证据。人们认为在数十亿年前火星有一个巨大的湖泊，很可能曾经有生命。刘登凯称：“毅力号另外带了一台氧气制造机，将利用火星气体制造氧气，为未来人类移民火星作准备。”

事实上，从地球飞到火星就需要203天，探测车要在恶劣环境下运行，再加上太空飞行要考虑的因素非常多，延迟2秒再反应就很危险，更何况是10几分钟。
